LIPDUB is coming!

Hello Lip-dublians!

It’s not long now to the big day and we in the student theatre office have been dotting the T’s and crossing the I’s in anticipation of LIPDUB! We’re getting very excited and we hope you guys are too!

We’ve plotted out a timeline and have a few dates we need you to pen into your diaries. First of all, we’re having four meetings for you guys to come and check out the route and hear the ideas that we’ve got so far! (All four meetings are going to be the same, we’re just spreading them out so you can attend at least one.) We want to hear your ideas here too so get your creative caps on! They will be held on Monday September 6 and Tuesday September 7 at 11am and 2pm in the Playroom, next to the student theatre office.

Shoot day is THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 30!!! Put a reminder in your phone, add yourself to the facebook group (just search La Trobe Lipdub and you’ll find it!), send yourself a letter, do whatever you have to do to make sure you have that date set! …And the day before as well. As this is a One Take film clip we are going to need a big fat rehearsal with all you gorgeous people. So we absolutely need you on September 29 and September 30 from 11 – 4. (We’re working on providing lunch on the day as big thanks from us, but I’ll get formal confirmation on that soon ). In the week leading up to it we’re also happy for small rehearsals with small groups for small amounts of time before threading it all together.

That’s it for now, make sure you keep your eyes on your emails and the facebook event page! Can’t wait to meet you all September 6 & 7!

Cheers, Kathleen, Bob and Anneli xx

Northcote Town Hall Season 2010

Wake in Fright

from the novel by Kenneth Cook

adapted and directed by Bob Pavlich

“May you dream of the Devil and wake in fright.” An Old Curse

Eager to escape his one-room outback school for the summer holidays, young city teacher, John Grant, heads toward Sydney. Passing through the rough mining town of Bundanyabba, Grant becomes hopelessly stranded, losing his entire wages in a game of two-up and over the subsequent five days sinks into a cycle of drunkenness, hangovers, fumbling sexual encounters and increasing self-loathing. Trapped in a hellish limbo, the once ordinary world of rural Australia becomes the setting for his grotesque and surreal nightmare.

Wake in Fright explores the very real distrust that exists between city and the bush and is an unflinching depiction of Australian masculinity that is as pertinent today as it was when written in 1961.

The 1971film version was lost for twenty years, the footage vanishing in vaults and nearly destroyed, and was only recently rediscovered, restored and re-released in 2009. And now, La Trobe University Student Theatre and Film is proud to present the very first theatrical adaptation of this classic story.

With Beth Myring, David Wright, George Lingard, Jacob Pruden, Kurt Mottershead, Laura Wheelwright, Matthew Bolger-Hobson, Matt Sharawara and Stephen Foster; this production, directed and adapted by the Artistic Director of Student Theatre, will shed new light on this already well-known harrowing tale.

Northcote Town Hall Season 2010

Moment on the Lips is the story of the interrelationships of seven women over a two year period. Inspired by Caryl Churchill’s Top Girls, the beautifully observed and insightful A Moment on the Lips won Sydney dramatist Jonathan Gavin the 2003 Philip Parsons Young Playwright of the Year Award.

This isn’t a play about women. This is about the warfare and decay of love and friendship between women and how they survive. With dialogue balancing on the line between unexpected cruelty and humour, A Moment on the Lips ‘fairly crackles with wit and insight’ (The Age).

For the second consecutive year, La Trobe Student Theatre and Film is proud to present its’ critically acclaimed off-campus performance season in Studio One of Northcote Town Hall.

With Elizabeth King, Kaitlyn Trollope, Madeleine Stewart, Meighan Spicer, Sakuna McArthur, Sarah Pratt and Sophie Petridis; and directed by one of La Trobe’s more revered student directors, A Moment on the Lips is poised to thrill and move you this winter.

Friday 20 August, Tuesday 24 August and Thursday 26 August 8pm
Saturday 21 August and Sunday 29 August at 6pm
Sunday 22 August and Saturday 28 August at 8.30pm
