Hi Student Theatre and Filmers!!

It’s February 17th and Moat is lurking just behind the flick of the month! Those involved in the theatrical side of things this season are having Showings in the Menzies Theatre this Thursday at 6pm. If you are involved in Showings, there will be a tray of sandwiches floating around but DO remember to bring yourself a proper dinner if you have reason to suspect that hunger pains may restrict your inner Meryl Streep, and after Showings we will have a tête-à-tête in the Eagle Bar!! We aim to be down in the Bar at 7.45 and all those involved or interested in Student Theatre are welcome to join us!!

The Moat Posters have come in! Poster runs will happen this week so if you happen to have a spare couple of minutes and are a dab hand at sticky-taping come in and grab a handful that you can tack over campus! The Badge Machine has had the bickie for the moment – any of you whizzkids good with levers, springs and bolts? (Anyone with access to a working machine that can press 57mm badges will find themselves on the receiving end of an inappropriate amount of hugging, please contact the office if you do!) In the meantime we have a number of badges– which are as of this moment of a limited edition so come into the office and grab yours before they all go!

Next week is O-week. O for lots of things! O-week isn’t just for 1st years, it’s ridiculously fun and even those of you in the know should take the opportunity to get involved! It also happens to be one of the busiest weeks in the Student Theatre and Film calendar, which means we need your help in big huggable ways! A lot of bright young things are going to be asking questions and dipping their fingers into the sugar and badge bowls, and it’s a great chance to meet the guys and dolls who you’ll be gracing the stages and sets with during the year. It doesn’t matter if you have 2 ticks or all week – if you’ve got a minute to spare on campus this week, whether you’re new to Student Theatre and Film or graduated years ago, come and donate it to the office! The particular days to mark down in your diary are:

Tuesday February 23rd
10-12pm
Host Tours in the Office
12-2pm
Guild Festival in the Agora
We need people who are willing to mill around the stall and speak/accost/seduce students who are drooling to sign-up for Student Theatre and Film.
We also need people who would get deliriously excited about getting body painted in orange, who want to dress up in costume, want to stage a scene, want to do a little dance make a little love etc. Get in touch today!
There is a bit of an in-joke happening with the o-week hosts, anyone who has a duck costume lying around and can be a mascot on this day would find themselves very much loved!
I have a dream…that you’re ALL there in the Ag having a boogie and laugh, make it happen peoples!

Thursday February 25th
1-3pm
Clubs and Societies Festival in the Agora
This day is going to be similar to Tuesday, if you’ve got the time to get your flirt on then bring a friend, bring all of them, your lunch as well if time is short, and hang off the edges of the Student Theatre and Film table in the Ag.
If you’ve got a bit more effort in you we’d love for you to get dressed up, adorn yourself with anything Moaty you can get your hands on (remember that there are t-shirt transfers in the office, all you have to do is chose what you want on your shirt and print it out), and get ready to have a laugh!
I have a dream…

Some of you have heard the rumours, they are true…1st week is going to be crazy! There has been talk about a Flash Mob Dance and yes it was going ahead, but I’m afraid we’ve had to cancel as it clashes with a Flash Mob Dance that La Trobe International are organising. We are however planning other events for O and 1st-week. We will be organising a ‘Big Freeze’ and a ‘No Pants Day’! Those of you who’d like to sign up and cause a stir and set a smile of several hundred faces need only email or call me! (For more info on these things visit improveverywhere.com) Any other ideas about events will also be considered just get in touch!

If you do still want to shake your groove thing and don’t mind lending your services to another cause then here are the details:

La Trobe International is organizing a Flash Mob (date and venue will be disclosed at a later stage) and we’re looking for participants from any age, size, and shape bracket! There are absolutely NO boundaries – anyone and everyone are welcome to participate. So whether you’re a potential ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ winner or you’ve got two left feet – we’d love to have you on board and be a part of this exciting and memorable experience!

Please send an email with your expression of interest to Shenaz Merchant – https://owa.latrobe.edu.au/owa/redir.aspx?C=da1773ee613c465dbaeaeacbf210f2a2&URL=mailto%3as.merchant%40latrobe.edu.au with ‘La Trobe University Flash Mob’ in the subject line and include your name and email address in the email. Shenaz will be in touch with you with all the information and latest developments.

Everybody look through your toy cupboards and garages! The Most Excellent and Lamentable Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet are looking for SuperSoakers…do you have a large watergun that you wouldn’t mind lending to Zoey Dawson and her cast for Moat? Get in touch with me if you can help!

Those of you who are contributing artworks to the wandering Art Exhibition this Moat, please note that you must submit/bring in your pieces to the Office no later than the 1st of March. If you’d like to write a blurb about yourself and your pieces please have that ready by then also.

Almost all the tech positions for Moat have been filled but we are looking for two more people interested in getting involved with a show. Get in touch asap if you want in!

In devastating news, the first issue of The Player has been postponed. I fear that size does matter in this case and so we will have a February/March issue released during Moat. It will still be the pre-Moat edition and have a large section called ‘Moat Backstage’. Many of you are reporting on the action surrounding Moat and we feel the more the merrier about this, so if others of you would like to contribute with an article or idea please get in touch. Review tasks are being dished out at the moment and are disappearing like scones and jam. There are about 5 shows left for grabs so if you want to review you’d better hurry! Please note that the submission date for the next edition of The Player is now March 15.

Front of House staff are required for all Moat shows, if you’re interested in scoring yourself a free ticket it’s best to give me a call sooner rather than later cause once O-week starts, the FOH is the hot ticket to have!

Felix from the Melbourne University Chinese Theatre Group has extended an invitation to those of you who speak Cantonese to audition for her upcoming production, ‘Rotate 270°’, info as below!

Rotate 270X mۂಷ0Xnwritten by Cheung Tat Ming iFdirected by Felix Ching Ching HoApr 30, May 1, 6, 7, 8Union House Theatre, University of MelbourneRotate 270X is a collection of seven stories which have no connection in time or space but are tightly interwoven as the characters travel together in the labyrinth of life. This is a story about life and death, depicting a self-destructive athlete, a schizophrenic actor, an award-winning yet depressed female writer, and a comatose patient. They each live in their own time and space but simultaneously invade the worlds of the others.
