Northcote Town Hall Season
Big congratulations to all who participated in our fabulous Northcote Season. We had nearly 1,200 people attend our four shows – this is way more than double any previous year. Great shows, great season!
And now – what’s next…?
Henry 4 Part 1
We’re re-mounting this production which was part of Moat Festival this year prior to taking it to Perth for a Shakespeare conference. It now features Dr Rob Conkie as Hotspur. If you missed it the first time or would like to se it again there’s two more chances – Friday, September 9th and Saturday, September 10th both at 7:30 in the Union Hall. And it‘s only $5 and there’s no need to book.
Moat Festival 2012
I’ll be heading overseas for most of October this year. That’s normally the time that I chat to those interested in submitting proposals for Moat Festival. So, even though submissions aren’t due until Monday, November 7th I would like to talk to anyone who might be interested in directing a play, dance piece, art installation – whatever. My last day of work before I take off is Friday, September 30th so give me a call and we can book a time to meet.
Auditions will be mid-November.

Happy 2010 theatre and filmers!
Hope you have all been making peace and love out of your summer holidays and made it through without too much sunburn!
My name is Anneli and I’m looking forward to being your friendly office lady for 2010! I like making quirky badge slogans, milk chocolate, youtubing Never Mind the Buzzcocks, white chocolate, Evelyn Waugh, dark chocolate… anyone with similar interests is always welcome at my desk with a cup of tea!

Many of you have got caught up in the whirlwind of Moat already, for those of you who haven’t felt the breeze yet or simply can’t get enough of it, the best is yet to come and we need your help to make the most of it!
The onstage action is underway and rehearsals are charging ahead, so it’s time to turn on the lights and music! Anyone who is interested in being a hero this Moat need not look further, whether you have teched a show before or are new to the knobs of the soundboards, we need lighting and sound technicians to help with all the Moat shows and would love to hear from everyone who has an interest in this! Zoey Dawson and the cast of The Most Excellent and Lamentable Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet are looking for a stage manager! If you fancy delving into the best hideaways of Melbourne looking for the perfect costumes and are good at keeping tabs on things, call the office or email Zoey at zoeys.new.email@gmail.com.
James Crafti is looking to fill an acting spot in Rope! It is a female part of about medium-size and the director hopes to cast the role asap. For more information and to register your interest, please call James directly on 0403 943 529.
Artists, photographers and visual communicators listen up! There will be an art exhibition running though this year’s Moat Festival! Anyone with a portfolio of work behind them or a lon
e masterpiece ready for display is urged to get in touch with me!
Starting afresh with a new moniker, the Moat Festival’s music day has been re-christened Sundowner! Band-booker Laurence Hewson dreams of putting together one massive program with as many different styles and performers as you can imagine! If you’re a singer, a songwriter, part of a band or a solo-act, a DJ or just have an interest in music – no matter if it’s Sinatra in your heart or Zeppelin on your belt, get in touch cause if you love music this is going to be your day of days! If your mind’s already made up and you want in, give Laurence a call or text on 0401 029 808 and start talking microphones! Otherwise give me a call and I’ll help you make ready!
All things Moat aside for the moment, The Player returns this year with a new format and new opportunities for writers and artists alike to get involved! Syar and I are looking to get a dedicated team together to run the publication but would also love to hear from anyone interested in contributing articles, reviews, photos, cartoons or artworks to individual issues!! Submissions to the first issue are due at 3pm on February 15 and the whole shebang will be out in time for O-week so get onto us today!
Badge-making tools are on their way and posters are in the works so drop by and check out what’s going on!

Welcome to Moat Festival 2010
We've still got Christmas and the last dregs of 2009 to get through, but we at La Trobe Student Theatre and Film are already gearing up for what looks to be a fantastic and exciting Moat Fest 2010. Here's a sneak preview of what we've got in store.
Digging still in the treasure trove of familiar classics, we bring you an outdoor production of the Grimm fairytale Hansel and Gretel, but beware for this tale will not be light like the cotton candy smoke from the gingerbread house of your childhoods.
In the Playroom, there will be a showcase of the theatrical greats Harold Pinter and Samuel Beckett. First with a production of Pinter's The Dumb Waiter and then with student-written Enter Godot, a riff on Beckett's Waiting for Godot.
Then, over at Menzies Theatre, we will be putting on a play devised and directed by Student Theatre's Artistic Director, Bob Pavlich called By The River. The play is loosely based on the 1986 film River's Edge and explores the notion of moral disengagement.
We've got a double whammy in the form of a combined production of two Australian plays: Tony Nicholls' The Labouchere File and Scott McAteer's Are You Happy? under the name of Close to the Edge. The former deals with an encounter between a young man fleeing an unhappy romance and an all-female, off-kilter mercenary army somewhere in Northern Australia while the latter deals with Tom, a tortured soul who needs help badly and Mr. Price, who gives him help - badly.
In the Odeon, we feature a murder in the form of Patrick Hamilton's Rope (the play on which Alfred Hitchcock based his film, Rope) where we follow a killing with a dinner party featuring the murdered's nearest and dearest and a locked chest containing his remains.
We also have some music and film to round out Moat Festival, with Movies in the Moat featuring student-made films screened under the stars and a Music Concert in the Eagle Bar.
