October Madness, Books and Music...

Welcome back FASTies to Melbourne! Brisbane was beautiful and I hope that those of you who didn't make it up with us this time, come next year =)


SHORT FLICKS
October is shaping up to be one of this busiest months of the year! Next Monday the 10th of October, the filmmakers of La Trobe have their night! At ACMI Cinemas at 8pm Short Flicks premieres! To purchase tickets please go to the ACMI website or you can buy your tickets at the door on the night (if you plan to do this, please arrive early to collect them!)


THE OCTOBER SEASON
Next Tuesday the 11th signifies the start of the October Season. This year 'A Lie of the Mind' and 'Closer' are on offer in the Studio. It is recommended that you book tickets in advance as the Studio has only limited seating. Call the office on 9479 1198 or email me to book your seats.


NOVELS FOR NEPAL
The lovely Becca Nayagam is raising funds for the charity she founded, Novels for Nepal. Novels for Nepal is a non-profit project which aims to raise money to build and stock a library for the Maha Buddha Lower Secondary School in the village of Yalbang in northern Nepal.

This time teaming with Roc'Um ( Melbourne Uni's musical theatre company specialising in rock opera musicals ) who will be belting their hearts out to help Novels for Nepal reach its imminent goal. For the price of only 15 dollars, you will be able to enjoy some marvelous live entertainment in a chilled out setting with cheap drinks available. All for a good cause!!

MUSICANS WANTED
The LaTUCS Choral Society is performing a concert on Friday the 21st of October and are in need of some musicial help. They need a drummer, a bass player and a pianist to accompany them for the song 'The Creation' by Bobrowitz and Porter. THE BALL
Finally it's that time of year again! The Long Live The Prohibition Ball is on Friday the 28th of October at 7.30pm in The Playroom. Tickets cost $30 if you pre-purchase them through the Student Theatre and Film office, or $35 at the door if there are any remaining. Due to the relatively small size of The Playroom, there is a LIMITED number of tickets available. If you absolutely cannot face the end of the Student Theatre year without one final dress-up and dance-till-your-clothes-drop-off, then it is very muchly recommended that you pop by the office and buy your tickets sooner rather than later!

LIPDUB
So Thursday is the premiere of that little film thingy we did the other week with… oh a hundred or so people in like… costumes and stuff….

Whether you missed LIPDUB due to torrential flooding in Euroa or rocked up and out on the day in multi-coloured stockings, this is the 4-minute video you have been waiting for and this premiere is unmissable!! Be there!! Where??

OCTOBER SEASON
The October Season has gotten underway and ‘The History Boys’ is now playing in The Studio. Tickets are sold out for tonight and tomorrow but there are a small number left for Friday and Saturday for those of you who are planning to come and see it – booking would be advised! ‘The Philanthropist’ opens on Monday the 18th of October in The Studio and tickets are now able to be booked through the office on 9479 1198.

STUDENT THEATRE BALL
The rumours are going round like kisses at an after-party, yes you heard it correctly – we are having a ball this year!! On Friday the 29th of October you will find The Playroom transformed into a dance-floor. The evening kicks off at 7.30pm and tickets are able to be purchased through the office from Friday the 15th of October (this coming Friday). Tickets cost $30 for students and $25 for Guild members, and must be pre-purchased. The theme this year is ‘The War is Over’ and posters will be appearing around the building soon to inspire you =) Full details including dress code will be emailed to you shortly, to get a head start think post-WW2…

AGORA ACTIVITIES
This Wednesday the 13th of October, we will be having a table in the Agora to promote the LIPDUB premiere, SunUp and the rest of the student theatre year. We’ll also be doing a fair bit of Moat talking. If you’ve got the time to hang around and chat between 12-2pm come on down – it’ll be worth your while!! On offer, Sonia Di Iorio and her gang have organised free yoga and belly-dancing instruction as well as some sports gear you guys can try out!! It should be an amazing lunchtime with cheap food so pop by and get into it!!
